Senior Center to be temporarily closed
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Senior Center will be closed to both the congregate meals and all activities that occur in the Senior Center due to kitchen floor replacement on Sept. 7-15.
During this time, activities such as painting classes and Tai Chi will still run in their normal time and location on various other floors of the building. Participants should use the front entrance of the building during this time.

Restorative justice takes center stage
BRATTLEBORO - Restorative justice will be on center stage at the Hooker-Dunham Theater, 139 Main St., on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Justice? Just Us, a musical dramatic production, is an exploration of how restorative justice can transform conflict and help to heal those who have been harmed by it. The show combines scripted action, improvisation, music, and songs.
Suggested admission is $10. Proceeds will be for the benefit of Restorative Community Justice of Southern Vermont. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. The Hooker-Dunham Theater is not handicapped accessible. BCTV will be filming the production,which will be aired at a later date.
Kids' open house at St. Michael's
BRATTLEBORO - Sunday, Sept. 8, marks the beginning of the program year at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. On that day, between 9:15 and 10 a.m., there will be an Open House on the lawn for kids, youth, parents, parishioners, and all in the community who are interested in supporting and participating in their ministry for children and youth.
Programs include Godly Play, Youth Discipleship Group, and Choir School. There will be food, an art project for kids, play, a bouncy house, and balloons. All are welcome to sample the various programs for children and youth. St. Michael's Episcopal Church is fully accessible and is located at the corner of Putney Road and Bradley Avenue.
Talent show in Newfane
NEWFANE - The annual Newfane Talent Show is Sunday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m., at the Newfane Congregational Church.
Performers from around the area will share their talents for song, dance, and more. Mike Kelly, the church's music director, will serve as master of ceremonies. All are invited to share a community dinner after the show.
The evening is free of charge, although donations are welcome and will benefit the church's music program.
SEVCA offers 'financial fitness' training
BRATTLEBORO - SEVCA invites participants to register for its upcoming “Financial Fitness” workshop series, starting Sept. 10 in Brattleboro.
This seven-part workshop series will help participants improve their relationships with money, develop strong financial habits, and take steps toward prosperity.
SEVCA's instructors will use tools from the acclaimed “Your Money, Your Goals” curriculum developed by the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Topics include saving, budgeting, credit, home buying, insurance, purchasing a car, and saving for college.
The instructor will also provide individualized financial coaching to help participants and their families become more financially secure.
The workshop series is free and open to the public. It will be held every Tuesday at Red Clover Commons, 30 Fairground Rd., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. through Oct. 22. Pre-registration is required. Call to register at 802-722-4575, ext. 151, or email [email protected].
Those who complete the course may be eligible to join SEVCA's SaVermont matched savings program. Participants earn a match for every $1 they save (up to $1,000) if they save a minimum of $25 each month toward home purchases or repairs, obtaining education or job training, starting or enhancing their own business, or car purchases or repairs needed for transportation to work.
Woman's Club to meet
BELLOWS FALLS - Members of the Bellows Falls Woman's Club will hold their first meeting of the new club year on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the United Church on School Street, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The program will be presented by Susan Shapiro of Valley Cares, located in Townshend. Upon payment of dues, members will receive the program booklet.
Since meeting in May, and then disbanding for the summer, the club presented its $1,500 high school scholarship to Brigid Hodsden. During the summer, the executive board met to plan programs, establish committees, and formulate a budget, which will be voted on at the meeting. In July, the club held a food and bake sale in conjunction with the Walpole Historical Society's summer fair.

Radio Club hosts testing session
TOWNSHEND - The West River Radio Club will offer an FCC licensing and ARRL certification testing session for all levels and upgrades on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 5:30 p.m, at the Heins Building of Grace Cottage Hospital, 133 Grafton Rd. (Route 35).

Wardsboro library presents bird program
WARDSBORO - Nicki Steel will present a slide show of her photographs and talk about the bald eagles of Mountain Mills in Wilmington on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m., at the Wardsboro Public Library, 170 Main St.
The eagles have been determined and successful parents. In the past three years, they have raised five eaglets, from rebuilding the nest through fledging.
After a brief intermission for light refreshments, Steel will show photos of a variety of Vermont birds and animals. She will have enlargements and cards available for sale. This free program is sponsored by the library, thanks to a grant from Deerfield Valley Rotary Club. All are welcome.
River walk and talk in Londonderry
LONDONDERRY - All are invited on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 5:30 p.m., at The Depot in South Londonderry for a brief walk and talk about Vermont rivers.
Shayne Jaquith, watershed restoration manager from The Nature Conservancy, will present a program on the physical nature of our rivers. The discussion will touch on historic and current stressors that affect flood resiliency, water quality, and in-stream and floodplain habitat and what is being done by the Conservancy and its partners to restore Vermont rivers.
The Londonderry Conservation Commission, in cooperation with the Conservancy, will sponsor this free program.
Register now for Vernon's annual town-wide tag sale
VERNON - Emily Vergobbe Houle is once again organizing a town-wide tag sale on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a chance to clean out attics, basements, and garages and to make some extra cash.
