WESTMINSTER WEST — With its theme, “All Roads Lead to Westminster West,” the 30th annual Westminster West Community Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7.
This year, the fair honors the town of Westminster Road Crew, who will be grand marshals of the parade. Adding to the transportation theme, a recently restored two-person sleigh will be part of the silent auction at the event.
Betsy Williams, one of the organizers, said in a news release that the fair is a community celebration, and participants wanted to honor the road crew, who will participate in the parade with their trucks.
Kids can also check out the heavy equipment from the town at 10 a.m. at the Westminster West School.
“They keep us rolling, and we appreciate all the work that they do,” Williams said of the road crew.
Admission to the fair, held in the heart of the village off Westminster West Road, is free. Fresh food and drink are available at a modest price.
The fair starts at 8:30 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m., and includes a fun run for kids and 5K race for adults; a bake sale; the parade through the village; and a raffle.
The “pick your own raffle prize” features an oil painting by Tim Cowles, a stylish pine bench by woodworker Nick Keil, and a set of four day passes to Mount Snow.
The silent auction has great prices on goods and services in Windham County, and there is also a White Elephant Sale in the Grange Hall in the village.
The silent auction includes a grand piano that has been converted into a desk; a canoe; and the sleigh - which requires a minimum bid of $2,500.
The fair also features live music; a talent show; a delicious chicken barbecue lunch for sale, with a vegetarian alternative; and a fruit-and-vegetable growing contest.
Discount haircuts from professional stylists will be available for $10 to $15, as will information about the Rich Earth Institute and other community groups.
Proceeds from the fair help support the community use of the Congregational Church of Westminster West building and community suppers held there.
