Dance school hosts open auditions for ‘Nutcracker’

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro School of Dance will hold open auditions for this season's Nutcracker ballet on Sept. 28. The audition is open to interested community members age 6 and up.

The children's audition (ages 6-12) will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Parents and grandparents for the “Party Scene” try out at 3 to 3:45 p.m., intermediate and advanced ballet and character dancers audition from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., and en pointe dancers from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

The school asks that those auditioning arrive 15 minutes early to Brattleboro School of Dance, 22 High St., on the third floor, to be welcomed, fill out contact information forms, and warm up.

They are looking particularly for children and adults for the party scene - and strongly encourage boys to audition. For these roles, acting and/or dance experience is preferable but not a requirement.

Additionally, a variety of other dance roles will be cast, from advanced beginning through advanced intermediate levels of ballet and character dance.

Performances will take place at the Landmark Theater on Dec. 20, 21, and 22. Proceeds from the performance will go to the School's scholarship fund.

Rehearsals will be held throughout the fall, weekly to begin with, and more frequently as performance dates approach.

All cast members must also be available each evening for a week prior to performance dates for tech rehearsals in the theater as well as for other full cast rehearsals to be announced.

A fee of $40 is due at the time of audition. This fee helps cover the cost of paying rehearsal directors, costumers, set designers, and others who make the show possible.
