‘Animalia’ featured at Gallery in the Woods

BRATTLEBORO — Gallery in the Woods, 145 Main St., presents its Winter Holiday show - Karen Gaudette's Animalia: “Welcome Yule.”

There will be an opening reception for the artist on Friday, Nov. 1, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., during Gallery Walk. The Moondogs will celebrate with music.

Gaudette offers joyful black and white drawings dedicated to the celebration of Yuletide, inspired by medieval illustrations, with images intended to inspire us to conserve, protect, and appreciate nature.

Animal minstrels welcome back the sun with song and dance, surrounded by starry winter night skies. Included in the show are the first in a series of Waterfowl and Raptor portraits, connected to her love of native New England birds.

Her exploration of archetypal and mystical imagery is perfectly mated to scratchboard technique. The medium invites fineline drawing with the feel of vintage black and white storybook illustration.
