Carter’s ‘Collection of Inspiration and Solitude’ at Crowell Gallery

NEWFANE — “Collection of Inspiration and Solitude” will be Chris Carter's first exhibit of her oils and watercolors at the Crowell Gallery at Moore Free Library, 23 West St. Her paintings will be on display for the month of November, with an artist reception on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Carter learned to paint with oils early in life by watching and painting with her father, developing her own technique and abilities through experience.

“Originally from Massachusetts, I moved to Vermont in 2014,” Carter wrote in her artist's statement. “I am inspired by the quietness and beauty in nature that God intended us to experience, and express this solitude in my paintings.

“Imagining a spot for myself in each painting to observe that moment in time … and to think that this spot would differ from viewer to viewer, as well as what they would observe there. I'd like also to inspire my viewers to pick up a brush and be drawn into creating something wonderful.

“I hope to always capture the peacefulness and beauty of rural life in New England and elsewhere, and portray this quietness richly on canvas, through oils and watercolor.”

The gallery is free and open to the public during library hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday 2 to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
