Baker Street Readers plans musical Christmas Special

BRATTLEBORO — Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will solve a yuletide mystery when the Baker Street Readers present a dramatic reading of The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m., at the Hooker-Dunham Theater, 139 Main St.

The Readers present one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories each month, but for Christmas they're throwing in a twist: Victorian Christmas carols sung by local a cappella group The Harmony Lot.

The drama at 221b Baker Street will be doubled with songs ranging from tried-and-true favorites to more obscure (but beautiful) tunes.

In The Blue Carbuncle, Dr. Watson visits his old friend, Sherlock Holmes, to wish him the compliments of the season. Holmes has an easy, pleasant case before him, he simply needs to find the owner of a certain hat and return a lost Christmas goose to him.

However, when a bizarre twist makes the case far more complicated and stakes far higher than originally thought, Holmes and Watson must dash out into the frigid winter streets of London to track down the origins of a precious stone and, perhaps, save an innocent man.

As always, Tony Grobe will play Dr. Watson with James Gelter as Sherlock Holmes. Special guests include Eli Coughlin-Galbraith, Shannon Ward, Jesse Tidd, Marit Bjerkadal, Krista Coughlin-Galbraith, Jessica Gelter, Jonathan Kinnersley, Katy Peterson, and Alex Beck.

Tickets are $5, cash only at the door. For more information visit facebook.com/bakerstreetreaders or email [email protected].
