River Singers seeks members for its spring session

WESTMINSTER WEST — River Singers Community Chorus led by Mary Cay Brass will start its spring session on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Westminster West Church.

The chorus, in their 29th year, is a multi-generational community choir dedicated to singing soulful, thrilling music from many lands. Every spring, the choir invites guest teachers from various world traditions to work with and perform with the choir.

This spring's special guests are from the New York City-based, internationally known Zlatne Uste Balkan Brass Band.

Zlatne Uste is composed of American-born musicians steeped in the brass and dance traditions of Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Northern Greece. The group has traveled from Brazil to Canada and coast to coast, playing for American and Balkan audiences.

Zlatne Uste has released four CDs. In addition to music from the Balkans, the choir will explore music from South Africa, the Republic of Georgia, and Sweden, as well as American folk, gospel, and social justice traditions.

The River Singers is a non-audition choir that welcomes singers from teens to elders. The singing is uplifting, moving, and invigorating - as one singer comments, “every week we limp in and leap out!”
