Sandglass Theater offers weekend workshops in puppetry

PUTNEY — Have you ever dreamed of making your own personalized puppet, and then breathing it to life and into story? Sandglass Theater is offering two intensive weekend workshops in April on puppet building and performance. No previous experience is necessary.

The puppet-building workshop, April 3-5, will be led by Sandglass co-founder Ines Zeller Bass and associate artist Jana Zeller.

Participants will learn the basics of a customized rod puppet. The process will include modeling a head and hands, learning techniques for painting puppet faces, and constructing a fabric body.

From this foundation, students will create their own unique puppet characters. Get your hands busy and your imagination fired up during this weekend-long immersion in the art of building your own puppet.

“Introduction to Performing with Puppets,” held April 24-26, will also be led by Bass and Zeller. They will lead participants through exercises and concepts for breathing life into a puppet.

Through breath and the power of the imagination, students will develop skills to work with one-person and three-person puppets, as well as develop short performance pieces.
