BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Music Center and the Latchis Theatre present the Windham Orchestra's performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute.
Four performances are scheduled: Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m.; Friday, March 27, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m.
Performances will feature well-known local voices in minor and major roles, as well as performers from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Albany, N.Y., and New York City.
“The Magic Flute is about quarrels and reconciliation, whatever we mean by 'growing up,' the magic of the unexpected, and the real magic that music works,” Windham Orchestra Musical Director Hugh Keelan said in a news release. “Maybe it is also about getting what we want in life: if we care to pay attention, we might see that we are surrounded by miracles and wonder.”
Brattleboro performers include Margery McCrum in the role of First Lady, Jim Anderson as Papageno. Elizabeth Wohl as Pamina, and Emily Baker as the Queen of the Night.
The Orchestra is particularly delighted that the “Three Spirits” will be performed by children who live in Westminster West. New to the area is Evangelia Leontis, also singing Pamina.
Artists will sing in the language of their choosing - German, English, or Spanish (supported by English subtitles on the Latchis screen) - while stage action dialogue will be in English.
