Absentee voting begins for WSESD school budget

In-person voting for district budget, delayed because of pandemic, set for June 30

BRATTLEBORO — The Windham Southeast School District, the school district for Guilford, Brattleboro, Dummerston, and Putney, will hold its budget vote - postponed from the annual meeting in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic - by Australian Ballot on Tuesday, June 30.

Voters will be asked to decide a budget of almost $51.2 million for the 2020-21 fiscal year. According to the warning, the budget represents a 4.1-percent increase over the current year's spending.

Voters will also select a moderator, clerk, and treasurer. Steven Brown, Barbara Nowakowski, and Frank Rucker are on the ballot for those three respective positions without opposition.

Due to continued COVID-19 concerns, the district strongly encourages voters to request an absentee ballot.

Reports and budget materials are available at the Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford, and Putney town offices and the Office of the Superintendent of Schools.

These materials, as well as the warning articles and sample ballot are posted on the school district's website. Click the link for “WSESD budget vote.”

A budget information will be held via online video conference on Tuesday, June 23, at 6 p.m. Details will be posted on the school district website. For further information, contact the WSESU Central Office at 802-254-3730.

If you are not currently registered to vote, go to the online voter registration page at olvr.vermont.gov or contact your town clerk.

The school district encourage all registered voters to visit My Voter Page at mvp.vermont.gov to update their registration address, including their physical and mailing addresses, and request an absentee ballot to be mailed to them.

If you encounter problems logging into your My Voter Page, contact your town clerk.

Absentee ballots may be requested at any time, but a ballot mailed after June 25 might not arrive by election day.
