Kings celebrate 65th anniversary

Anniversary

Robert Schnare King and Shirley Jean (Blodgett) King will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Feb. 11.

The couple was married on that day in 1956 at Centre Congregational Church chapel in a ceremony performed by Rev. Robert J. Harding.

Robert and Shirley worked and raised their children in Brattleboro.

Robert served in the Vermont National Guard from 1948 to 1952 and was stationed in Munich, Germany. He also worked at Brattleboro Trust Company - which later became Vermont Bank & Trust - from 1947 to 1969.

Shirley, also a longtime banking professional, worked at Brattleboro Trust Company and Vermont National Bank.

In the early 1970s, the Kings purchased Gunzingers Food Town, which they owned and operated until 1985.

During their retirement, Shirley and Robert loved to travel in their RV. Over the years, they visited most of the 48 continental states. They enjoyed their winter stays in Florida and Myrtle Beach.

“Fond memories are treasured of their travels and wonderful friends made along the way,” their children write.
