Putney monthly free produce distribution is March 25

PUTNEY - The Vermont Foodbank and the Putney Foodshelf will co-sponsor the next monthly drop of free produce and some nonperishables on Thursday, March 25, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., at Putney Meadows, 17 Carol Brown Way (the white building across from the Putney Food Co-op and the fire station).

This food distribution takes place regularly on the fourth Thursday of every month. All are welcome. Because of COVID-19, those who need food may drive up and receive bags of food from volunteers.

Rep. Leslie Goldman to hold online constituent meeting

ROCKINGHAM - Rep. Leslie Goldman, D-Rockingham, will host a constituent meeting on Saturday, March 27, at 10 a.m., to discuss issues, questions, and concerns with constituents of the Windham-3 district.

Goldman and her intern, University of Vermont student Alexis Drown, will hold an hourlong online Zoom session to discuss legislative plans for the coming year.

The meeting will be accessible via Zoom at bit.ly/605-leslie and will be open to all constituents of Windham-3.

The district is comprised of Rockingham, Grafton, Windham, Athens, and Brookline, and is represented jointly by Goldman and Rep. Carolyn Partridge.

Evening Star Grange hosts maple supper

DUMMERSTON - Evening Star Grange in Dummerston Center will hold a takeout-only maple supper on Saturday, March 27, with pickup between 4:30 and 6 p.m. The menu features baked ham with maple glaze, maple-sweetened baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, and maple cake.

Reservations are required and must be made by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 26. Call the Grange at 802-254-1138 and leave a message stating your name, telephone number, and the number of meals needed.

All tickets are $10, in cash or a check made payable to Evening Star Grange. Someone will be at the hall on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday to answer questions.

Pratt Library to discuss James Baldwin's 'The Fire Next Time'

WEST DUMMERSTON - The Lydia Taft Pratt Library, 150 West St., will be hosting an online discussion of James Baldwin's classic book The Fire Next Time.

Several library users have expressed renewed interest in Baldwin's 1963 work in light of the ongoing national discussion around racial justice and civil rights.

The event will happen on Tuesday, March 30, at 6 p.m.

Take a 'roadside selfie' with Peter Cottontail

BRATTLEBORO - The Recreation & Parks Department will not host its annual Easter Egg Hunt this year. However, the department will team with Brown & Roberts Hardware on Main Street to offer “Peter Cottontail roadside selfies” on Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m. until noon.

According to municipal sources, Cottontail will hop into town and sit in the display window of Brown & Roberts Hardware on Main Street that morning.

Families are also invited to take a photo with Cottontail through the window. Masks will be required, and COVID-19 protocols will be in place.

Participants will receive a goodie bag while supplies last.

RFPL hosts talk on preventing tick-borne diseases

BELLOWS FALLS - Alexis Chesney N.D. will discuss “Preventing Lyme and Other Tick-Borne Diseases” over the Rockingham Free Public Library's Zoom on Wednesday, April 7, at 6 p.m.

With more people heading outside for exercise, knowing how to prevent these diseases is more important than ever. Chesney will review the various ticks found in North America and the disease-causing pathogens that they carry.

She'll discuss the signs and symptoms of the most common tick-borne diseases and provide strategies for preventing tick bites. She will answer questions.

Chesney is a naturopathic physician, acupuncturist, author, and educator who works full-time at Sojourns Community Health Clinic in Westminster and has a small part-time private practice. She enjoys getting to the root cause of complex chronic illness and partnering with patients to find wellness and balance in their lives.

Her book, Preventing Lyme and Other Tick-Borne Diseases, is available from Sojourns Community Health Clinic, your local bookstore, or online. It received a starred review from Library Journal.

Applications sought for Crowell scholarships

NEWFANE - The Moore Free Library is accepting applications for the 2021 Robert L. Crowell Scholarships.

Funded by the family of the late publisher Robert L. Crowell, $12,000 is available to any graduating high school senior or GED recipient who lives in Newfane, Williamsville, South Newfane, or Brookline.

Applicants must also be entering their first year of college, community college, or post-secondary trade or vocational school in the fall of 2021. Academic performance, personal growth, and contributions to the community will be considered by the scholarship committee in making this year's awards.

Each application must include the completed cover page containing personal information. This page can be downloaded from moorefreelibrary.org/scholarships.

The application should include a brief autobiography, the applicant's plans for continued study, and the name of the school to which the applicant has been accepted, as well as the applicant's official high school transcript and a minimum of two letters of reference.
