USDA to survey sugar-makers about 2021 maple crop

BRATTLEBORO — The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will conduct the 2021 Maple Syrup Survey for the Northeast Region. The survey will collect information from approximately 1,600 Northeastern producers.

“The Northeastern Region produced 3.94 million gallons of maple syrup in 2020. Vermont was the top Maple Syrup state with 51 percent of the United States' maple syrup,” King Whetstone, director of the NASS Northeastern Regional Field Office, said in a news release.

“Taps in the Northeastern Region totaled 12.2 million and accounted for 90 percent of the Nation's maple taps,” he added.

The 2021 survey will ask about the 2021 and 2020 taps and production as well as price information on the syrup produced in 2020.

To ensure that all survey participants have an opportunity to respond, NASS interviewers might contact producers who do not respond by mail or online to conduct telephone interviews.

Survey results will be published in the Crop Production report to be released on June 10. These and all NASS reports are available at nass.usda.gov/Publications.
