‘Seussical’ continues tour in southern Vermont

Weston Playhouse Theatre Company announces its 2021 Young Company production Seussical, which is touring venues throughout central and southern Vermont.

Follow Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and more of characters into the world of Dr. Seuss in an afternoon of storybook fun and “all the thinks you can think” for the whole family.

The theater company joined with partners across the state to bring Seussical free to audiences in their own towns.

In a news release, Director Allison Benko expressed her hope that the free tickets, the outdoor setting, and the touring nature of the production “will allow us to reach as many communities as we can.”

Benko is returning to Weston after twice serving as teaching artist for the theatre's Young Playwrights Program and contributing The Before to the company's series of Postcard Plays in 2020. She was the assistant director for 2017's Tony Award-winner for Best Play, Oslo, at Lincoln Center Theater.

Seussical features Young Company alums Daelynn Jorif and Alexander Tan as the Sour Kangaroo and Mayzie.

This production introduces Nadia Belaouchi as the Cat in the Hat, Emma Diner as Gertrude, Sage Jepson as Horton, Gracee Street as the Mayor, Cole Thompson as Jojo, and Timmy Thompson as the Mayor's Husband.

The production has already made appearances in Brownsville, Grafton, and Putney.

Remaining performances take place on Wednesday, July 28 at Brown Field in Springfield at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 29 at the Manchester Recreation Park baseball field at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 1 at Walker Farm in Weston at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3 in Willow Park in Bennington at 1 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, Aug. 6 and 7, at Walker Farm in Weston at 1 p.m.
