Brattleboro Senior Meals now operating five days a week
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Senior Congregate Meal dining program has begun operating five days a week, Monday through Friday, from noon to 12:30 p.m., at the Senior Center in the basement of the Gibson-Aiken Center, 207 Main St.
Capacity is still limited, and reservations will be required no later than 11 a.m.
Also, the Meals on Wheels program has an immediate need for volunteers to help deliver meals. You can volunteer one day or five.

Get wild with Moore Library, VINS
NEWFANE - The Moore Free Library, 23 West St., will host two visits featuring live animals from the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) in August.
At VINS, “Reptile Rendezvous” on Sunday, Aug. 8, at 3 p.m., the public can meet reptile ambassadors up close and learn about how they have adapted to their habitats here in New England.
On Sunday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m., people will learn the answers to questions such as “How did Snake lose her legs? Why does Owl only fly at night? How did Turtle fly south for the winter?” Meet these animals and hear their stories while learning about the adaptations that help them survive in a program called “Animals in Myths and Legends.”
These programs are geared towards families, but all are welcome.
Parents are asked to follow presenters' instructions about safely distancing kids from these live animals. Please leave your dog at home.
All programs are offered free, and the grounds and ground floor of the building are fully accessible.
Senior meal served in Dummerston
DUMMERSTON - Senior Solutions and Evening Star Grange will present their second Wednesday senior lunch on Aug. 11 with both indoor seating and takeout meals.
Pickup for takeouts is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and lunch will be served inside at noon.
The menu will be meat or veggie lasagna, tossed green salad, garlic bread, and a blueberry/lemon dessert.
A donation of $4 ($3 for those 60 and older) is suggested. Everyone is welcome.
Reservations for both in-house seating and takeout are strongly suggested and may be made by calling the Grange at 802-254-1138 by Tuesday, Aug. 10.
Greater Falls Connections celebrates community with BBQ
BELLOWS FALLS - Join Greater Falls Connections on Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Rockingham Rec Center for the organization's annual “Celebrating Community BBQ.”
The nonprofit describes the event as “a fun summer potluck to celebrate inspiration, community, and prevention.”
This year's ACE (Active Community Engagement) Award winner will be announced, and attendees will vote members to the 2021-22 community advisory board.
If you would like, bring a dish to share. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available there.

Friends of Brooks Library host ice cream social
BRATTLEBORO - The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library will hold an ice cream social fundraiser at the Kiwanis Shelter at Living Memorial Park on Thursday, Aug. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m.
“While you're slurping it down, you and your kids will enjoy some fun outdoor games on the lawn with the help of Circus Minimus,” the event organizers write.
The rain date is Sept. 2.
Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $4 per cone of ice cream, donated by the Brattleboro Food Co-op.
The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the library with funding for technology, programs, museum passes, lectures, and fun.
Meditation Center moves, reopens
BRATTLEBORO - Vermont Insight Meditation Center (VIMC) has reopened for face-to-face meetings, gatherings, and meditation at its new location at 11 University Way, on the campus of the Vermont Agricultural Business Education Center (VABEC).
The nonprofit is observing Covid precautions, and its leadership asks that only those who are fully vaccinated attend programs in VIMC's meditation hall. Sessions will be broadcast by Zoom for all who cannot attend in person.
Vermont Insight, formerly located at Solar Hill, has been offering meditation sessions, retreats, and classes for residents of the area since 2005.
