Tracy and Murphy to perform at Retreat Farm

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Music Center and Retreat Farm Music Under the Stars summer concert series continues Saturday, Aug. 14, with a performance by Becky Tracy and Keith Murphy.

The free concert will be held at Retreat Farm, 45 Farmhouse Square. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.; the concert begins at 6:30 p.m.

All are welcome to bring lawn chairs and a picnic. Food from Dosa Kitchen and Jamaican Jewelz will be available, as will maple creemees and craft beers.

Tracy and Murphy, of Brattleboro, are celebrated performers of traditional music from Newfoundland, Quebec, Ireland, France, and beyond.

Combined, “they produce a range and richness of sound that is striking for a duo,” as described in a news release. “Their playing is seamless, the result of years of playing together and touring across the U.S., Canada and Europe.”

Their repertoire also includes Murphy's original compositions. He is a prolific tunesmith with a writing style strongly based on traditional dance music.

Their duo recording, Golden, was released last year.

Tracy and Murphy are founding members of the popular Vermont trio Nightingale and veterans of several other bands, including Childsplay and Assembly (Murphy) and Wild Asparagus and Eloise & Co. (Tracy).

Tracy released her first solo recording, Evergreen, in 2001 and in recent years has been active with Eloise & Co., which is recording a second album.

Land of Fish and Seals (2018) is Murphy's latest solo recording.
