Meeting, survey seek public opinion about expanding bus service to West River Valley

NEWFANE — A public meeting is set for Thursday, Aug. 26 to discuss transportation needs along the Route 30 corridor and surrounding communities, as part of a study of a potential new bus route along Route 30.

According to Randy Schoonmaker, CEO of Southeast Vermont Transit, which operates the MooVER bus service in the Deerfield and Connecticut River valleys, the agenda includes “a presentation about study activities completed to date at the beginning of each hour and an opportunity to talk with the planners throughout the meeting about transportation needs and how a new transit route could be designed to address those needs.”

He said the meeting “will provide a unique opportunity for you to share your vision for how transportation along the corridors could improve your community.”

“Would public transportation improve your access to employment? Would it be an alternative to driving yourself? Would it help you get to shopping areas or recreational activities? Please come and let us know,” Schoonmaker said.

The firehouse is accessible. Individuals requiring accommodations to attend the meeting should contact RLS & Associates, the Dayton, Ohio–based consulting firm working with Southeast Vermont Transit, at 937-299-5007 no later than Aug. 24.

The meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the NewBrook Fire Station, 698 VT 30. Face coverings will be required.
