RSVP seeks volunteers for nonprofits, health programs

BRATTLEBORO — Green Mountain RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) of Windham County is part of a nationwide organization of more than 400,000 senior volunteers, aged 55 and older, who help fill unmet needs in communities, especially among the elderly and disadvantaged.

They describe themselves as “an active community of seniors helping fellow seniors stay healthy, independent, and able to enjoy life longer at home.”

Green Mountain RSVP has a wide variety of volunteer positions available with local nonprofits such as senior centers, hospitals, and food pantries, as well as running exercise programs.

Help is also needed to provide rides to medical appointments, deliver food and meals, provide food shelf support, and help with the AARP-sponsored Tax Aide program, Red Cross blood drives, and assisting seniors living alone.

Green Mountain RSVP is also looking for new instructors for the Bonebuilders exercise classes, Arthritis Foundation walking groups, and an aquatic exercise instructor.

“If you can give just two to four hours each week, this can make a huge difference in people's lives,” a spokesperson wrote in a news release. “Transportation is one of our biggest challenges, and RSVP offers supplemental insurance to drivers while in service.”

Interested parties should call 802-254-7515 to arrange to meet with the RSVP volunteer coordinator and learn about opportunities around Windham County.
