BUHS musician named to Macy’s Great American Marching Band

BRATTLEBORO — Lucas Forthofer, a senior trombonist from Brattleboro Union High School, has been selected to represent Vermont in the Macy's Great American Marching Band.

He will perform with 200 other students from across the country in the 95th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 25 in New York City.

This parade will be seen live by millions of spectators along the parade route in Manhattan, and on television by 50 million viewers as participants perform a routine in Herald Square.

Forthofer had to submit an audition video in which he demonstrated his musical ability as well as his marching skills. On Sept. 28, he was informed that he had been selected.

The next step, once he is officially registered, is to commit his parts in the music to memory prior to his arrival in New York. The band will rehearse from Nov. 21 to 24.

In addition to hours of rehearsal time, band members will also have opportunities to tour New York City.

Forthofer, the son of Scott and Sara Forthofer of Brattleboro, recently moved to town from Butte, Mont. He plays in the BUHS marching band and jazz band and plans to audition for the Vermont All-State band.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the BUHS band's performance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
