Caroling event will benefit Wilmington Fire Department

Red Door Carol Sing at St. Mary’s set for Dec. 11

WILMINGTON — St. Mary's in the Mountains, 13 East Main St., invites one and all to its sixth annual Red Door Community Carol Sing on Saturday, Dec. 11 to celebrate the season, sing traditional carols and seasonal favorites, and enjoy musical performances by Deerfield Valley musicians, along with tasty treats and surprises.

The red doors of the Episcopal church will open at 3:15 p.m.; beginning at 3:30 p.m., singers and ensembles will offer a variety of seasonal music, including choral, traditional, and jazz.

At 4 p.m., the audience is invited to join in singing Christmas Carols and songs, accompanied on piano, violin, guitar, the church's pipe organ, and some “unexpected instruments,” the event's organizers promise in a news release.

Among the performers and accompanists will be Valley Voices (a seven-voice women's chorus), pianists Barbara Lipstadt and Ned Wilson, violinist Bekka Eowind (with students from the Woodland Musicians and in an ensemble featuring Kurt Schellenberg, George Adair, and Rene Carranza), Holly and Joe Fortner, Eithne and Mike Eldred, Parker Brown, Alexandria Young, and St. Mary's organist Michael Pennington.

Lyric books will be available for all. Interspersed with the singalong will be performances by singers and instrumentalists.

“And it is expected that St. Mary's Lady Elf, Saint Nicholas, and perhaps even a surprise guest will be there!” the organizers hint.

This is the Sixth Red Door Community Carol Sing and the 16th concert in St. Mary's' series of Red Door Concerts, each of which has raised money for local organizations that help friends and neighbors. This year, all donations will support the Wilmington Fire Department, which since 1858 has protected the community through the efforts of its volunteers and staff.

Admission is by donation. Because of current health guidance, guests are required to wear masks, which will be available at the door.
