BAJC publishes new cookbook

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Area Jewish Community (BAJC), Congregation Shir Heharim, announces the release of their community cookbook, Song of the Mountains, Vol. 2, Favorite Family Recipes, Past & Present.

According to a news release, the cookbook's theme is “family and the memories which are brought to mind by the foods that were shared at holidays, special occasions, and everyday meals.”

Spearheaded by BAJC's fundraising committee - Deb Schiller, Susan Auslander, and Stephan Brandstatter - this project has been a year in the making and is the cumulative work of many members, relatives, and friends.

Inside are 100 recipes, some with narratives and illustrations by Dr. Stuart Copans, for various appetizers, soups, salads, entrées, side dishes, breads and rolls, and desserts. Some recipes are of Sephardic, Eastern European, or Middle Eastern origin, and some are even suitable for specific holidays. Also included are gluten-free recipes.

The retail price of the cookbook is $25, but BAJC is offering a pre-publication price of $22.50 for one book, $42 for two, and $18 for each additional book.

Local pickup can be arranged by contacting Stephan Brandstatter at [email protected], or books can be shipped by media mail at a cost of $5 for one book, with $2 for each additional book.

Checks payable to BAJC may be sent in care of Stephan Brandstatter, 412 Western Ave. #2, Brattleboro, VT, 05301. PayPal is also accepted. Go to bajcvermont.org and click on the Donate button. Be sure to indicate what your purchase is for.
