Vermont Theatre Company to hold auditions on April 3, 4

BRATTLEBORO — The Vermont Theatre Company announces auditions for their upcoming production of The Servant of Two Masters, written by Carlo Goldoni and translated and adapted by Jeffry Hatcher and Paolo Emilio Landi.

Auditions will be held Sunday, April 3, 10 a.m., at the Hooker-Dunham Theater and Gallery in Brattleboro, and Monday, April 4, 5 p.m., at the Evening Star Grange in Dummerston Center.

The Servant of Two Masters is a modern Italian commedia adapted from Carlo Goldini's play written in 1743. A news release describes it as “a hilarious and convoluted story of mistaken identities, disguises, miscommunications, and matters of honor by which true lovers are kept apart and then, as if by clockwork, are finally brought together.”

No previous experience is required, and there is no need to prepare anything for auditions. As commedia dell'arte is based on high comedic physicality, organizers are looking for actors who can work well as an ensemble, take theatrical chances, and make their characters larger than life through exaggerated and heightened movements. Actors with clowning and dance experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Performances will be Friday, July 1, through Sunday, July 3, at The Retreat Farm in Brattleboro. For further information, or to set up an alternate audition time, email the director at [email protected].
