Parker Huber: a presence and witness for peace and the Earth

PUTNEY — Parker Huber would've fully agreed with Mary Harris “Mother” Jones that we should “pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living.”

Parker was a thoughtful but humble person who was green before the political party was ever in existence. His method of activism was the silent vigil, always a presence and witness for peace and the Earth. He bicycled everywhere, no matter the season or the weather, modeling behavior for all of us in the age of climate crisis.

Every year I could look forward to a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” on my message machine, the best birthday present of the year.

In his memory, I would like to renew my activism and increase my bicycling, and if a few people did that as well, I think that Parker would've smiled in appreciation.
