SOUTH NEWFANE — “Forty-five” was and is a clear and present danger to our democracy. He lost the 2020 presidential race. He knows it, as does the whole GOP. He had a plan in place to overturn the election and silence the voices of Americans fed up with this egomaniacal, grifter-in-chief and his cronies.
Months in advance, he started the election fraud talk. When he lost, he created the Big Lie, with plenty of help from Fox News, his crazy lawyers, and the GOP.
During his tenure in office, he repeatedly violated the Emoluments Clause and the Hatch Act, both designed to protect the integrity of the office of the president. He made cruel immigration policy rules, putting children in cages. His great wall is in shambles already. He grossly mishandled the pandemic and weaponized the Justice Department to go after his political foes.
He and his enablers in Congress and radical right-wing media and militias are still fomenting hate and violence through misinformation. He planned and oversaw the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, and he sat for hours watching and doing nothing to protect members of Congress and their staff, who were in the process of certifying the election results, or the Capitol police officers under vicious attack. Or even his own Vice-President, who in the end did call in the National Guard.
He spent all his time after the election trying to overturn it, then on his way out the door, he stole a large cache of classified documents.
Presidents don't get to keep government documents; they go to the National Archives. The FBI tried for months to retrieve them. He refused, forcing them to take the drastic step of obtaining a search warrant for his residence.
He is no victim, but he plays the part well. He's the biggest loser ever, and he has poisoned the well of our national waters with his foul interpretations of reality, because everything is about him and his ego.
He doesn't care about Americans, only himself. He's a compulsive liar and crook.
So, enjoy your rose-colored glasses with your head in the sand. It's your right. To me, loving him is like worshiping cow manure, and I'm rooting for the orange jumpsuit.
