43 artists reimagine 43 books in RE-covery II

BELLOWS FALLS — Artists, artisans, and architects working in all media and from all over the country were recently invited by Art Around Books, a new gallery and workshop space in Bellows Falls, to participate in “RE-covery II: 43 Artists Re-imagine 43 Books.”

According to a news release, the participants were asked to select a book that has been important to their creative processes - for better or worse - and “artistically alter” the cover and contents. Local artists include Eric Aho, Brian Cohen, Campion Tillbrook, Frances Holliday Alford, Abby Jones, Gretchen Abendschein, Gerry Biron, Jo Anne Russo, Sarah Paulson, Michele Burgess, and Bill Kelly.

“The results are astonishingly inventive, fun, sobering, shocking, poignant, and ridiculous - often causing us to rethink the way books are seen or handled,” say organizers.

The exhibition begins on Saturday, Oct. 15, with a reception from 3 to 7 p.m., and continues through Jan. 2, 2023.

Art Around Books, located at 5 Canal St., features fine press artists' books, drawings, paintings, and prints for sale by international, national, and local artists. Housed in the same setting is a bookstore that specializes in poetry, art, philosophy, literary fiction, and first editions. For more information, visit artaroundbooks.com.
