St. Mary’s hosts annual Red Door Community Carol Sing

WILMINGTON — St. Mary's in the Mountains, 13 East Main Street, welcomes one and all to its seventh annual Red Door Community Carol Sing. On the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 10, the entire community is invited to celebrate the season, to sing traditional carols and seasonal favorites, to enjoy musical performances by Deerfield Valley musicians, and to sample tasty treats.

The Red Doors open at 3:15 p.m. Beginning at 3:30 p.m., guests will be entertained during what organizers call a “Musical Appetizer,” when singers and ensembles will offer a variety of traditional carols, classical pieces, and some surprises.

At 4 p.m., the audience is invited to join in singing Christmas Carols and songs, accompanied on piano, guitar, violin, St. Mary's beautiful pipe organ, and even a few unexpected instruments.

Among the performers and accompanists will be pianists Barbara Lipstadt and Rich Mattern, students from the Twin Valley Middle/High School Chorus, a quartet from Valley Voices (a women's chorus), St. Mary's organist Michael Pennington, Bekka Eöwind, Pedro Pereira, Holly and Joe Fortner, Evon Mack, and Mike Eldred.

Lyric books will be available for all to join in the carols. Performances by singers and instrumentalists will be interspersed with the singalong. And, this year, St. Mary's Lady Elf and St. Nicholas will be joined by three Junior Elves.

This year's Carol Sing is the 20th concert in St. Mary's' series of Red Door Concerts, each of which has raised money for local organizations that help our friends and neighbors. Admission is by free-will donation, and this year, all donations will support Deerfield Valley Community Cares, which since 2004 has helped people in the community with heating expenses when, despite their best efforts, they cannot make ends meet.
