‘Look Good, Feel Better’ breast care program offered at BMH

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Memorial Hospital announces another session of a free program called “Look Good, Feel Better.”

This one will be held on Monday, Jan. 17, from 1-3 p.m., in the Women's Resource Room on the second floor of the Richards Building at BMH. The programs are offered through the BMH Comprehensive Breast Care Program and Oncology Department.

The hospital started offering the “Look Good, Feel Better” program several years ago when local cosmetologists Linda Barry and Joanna Terry of Cottage Hair Studio brought the program to BMH. They are among only five such volunteers in Vermont who went through the training to help them facilitate the program.

“Look Good, Feel Better” is a free program that teaches women cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance during cancer treatment. Volunteer cosmetologists teach women about make-up techniques, skin care, and options related to hair loss such as wigs, turbans, and scarves. It is specifically for women in cancer treatment or who are going through recovery and who want to be in charge of their lives. These free programs are scheduled to occur every six weeks.

The program is also sponsored in part by the American Cancer Society (ACS). The cosmetologists from Cottage Hair Studio supply products and expertise to cancer patients to help them feel more beautiful.

To register for this free class, or for further information about the Breast Care Program, call Kelly McCue, RN, at 802-257-8437. She is the navigator of the BMH Comprehensive Breast Care Program. The next session of the class is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 28.
