Broad Brook Grange welcomes new members in 2011

GUILFORD — Broad Brook Grange extends an invitation to one and all to join the Grange.

Membership is not limited to Guilford residents. Neighboring community members are invited to become members as well. The Grange offers many activities for its membership and Broad Brook Grange prides itself it its offerings to the community.

With Guilford celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2011, the Grange will be co-sponsoring a vast assortment of events, the first of which was a free chili supper followed by a contra dance. Monthly dances will be held at the Grange Hall as will several suppers and presentations.

The mission of Granges throughout the nation is to “improve the quality of life in America's families and communities.”  This is done in a diverse array of activities, such as their annual Mother's and Father's Day Brunches, the Sugar on Snow Supper, donating dictionaries to all third-graders at Guilford Center School, co-sponsoring Community Recognition Night,  filling and distributing holiday stockings to the homebound and sponsoring a Candidate's Forum.

Broad Brook Grange was established in Vermont in 1874. The Grange Hall, located on Guilford Center Road, was built in 1896. The hall is used for a wide variety of events and is also available to rent for weddings, family gatherings, and other celebrations. In its heyday, Broad Brook Grange membership exceeded 100 members.

Regular Grange meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Grange Hall, which is generally followed by fellowship provided by our members.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Broad Brook Grange, membership pamphlets can be found at the various Grange events as well as through the Grange Secretary. Once you have filled out the membership information, send it to Grange Secretary Carole Mills at 28 Nasuta Drive, Guilford, VT 05301.

Grange officers will review applications at the next scheduled meeting after which you will be called upon to take the Oath of the 4th Degree for official membership into the Grange. Yearly dues for membership are $25. There is a one time $3 application fee for new members.
