Jupiter String Quartet to do Yellow Barn residency

PUTNEY — From April 17-23, and May 24-29, Yellow Barn welcomes the Jupiter String Quartet back to Putney for a journey through one of the greatest chamber music cycles ever written.

In two residency weeks, the Jupiter Quartet prepares itself to perform the Beethoven string quartets, one of the defining experiences in the life of any string quartet. The six concerts they present during their stay are given in anticipation of their performance of the complete cycle at the 2011 Aspen Music Festival.

The bustling schedule of events runs April 17 at 7 p.m. (Hooker-Dunham Theater, Brattleboro), April 21 and 23 at 7 p.m. (Next Stage, Putney), May 24 at 7 p.m. (Yiddish Book Center, Amherst, Mass.), and May 27 at 7 p.m. and May 29 at 3 p.m. (Next Stage, Putney).

Additionally, post-concert talk-back sessions with The Jupiter Quartet, moderated by Artistic Director Seth Knopp, will take place after the April 17 and May 24 performances.

As part of this special series, Yellow Barn will bring back a longstanding Yellow Barn tradition - a Garden Tour and Performance Dialogue - on May 28, providing audiences and garden lovers alike the chance to take walking tours through beautiful gardens in Putney and the surrounding area, and enjoy a performance and dialogue by The Jupiter String Quartet focusing on the two alternate endings to Beethoven's Opus 130 String Quartet. Gardens open for touring from 1-4 p.m., and a catered concert is held at 7 p.m. at Sun Ledge, home of John Burt in Putney.
