American Legion Band Holiday Concert: The concert opens with “Christmas Declaration” directed by Bruce Corwin and Raymond Brown, followed by “In The Bleak Midwinter” by Gustav Holst, featuring Dexter Churchill, clarinet soloist. Next up is “Feliz Navidad,” a popular carol with a Cuban flair. The “Christmas Song” features saxophone soloist Susan Corey, and then comes “Rock Around the Christmas Tree” with “Fanfare and Procession on an Old English Carol” based on “O Come All Ye Faithful.” The second half starts with Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival,” with excerpts from Christmas carols. Then the band performs a contemporary version of the 17th century English carol “I Saw Three Ships,” arranged by Vince Gassi. An original work by Alan Stein called “Snow Day Celebration,” capturing happy childhood memories of a snow day follows. Then John Rutter’s choral composition “Candlelight Carol” is followed by Raymond Scott’s “The Toy Trumpet” and a James Swearingen original work, “A Christmas Auld Lang Syne.” The conclusion has the audience joining in for a Christmas sing-a-long prior to the band performing the evening’s last piece, Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride." . 7:30 p.m. Freewill offering. .
