Visual arts and shows

W. BRATTLEBORO April Judd and Bev Larson - Paintings and Sculpture: Judd often features birds and trees in her work, finding them to messengers and teachers providing wisdom and hope. Larson, a history buff, chooses antiques or forgotten items from bygone decades for her found-object sculptures, exploring and recreating their connection to her views on our current world. Her oil paintings are often inspired by the haunting yet beautiful pictures of dilapidated asylums, hospitals, and forgotten places like Chernobyl. Judd and Larson regard this collection as a history of their 13-year journey together. They fell in love with the unique and beautiful light and landscapes of Guilford, VT, where they live and work as the Home Gnomes. This is their first major gallery show. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., during Sunday worship, other public events in the building, by appointment. Through Saturday, June 30. All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 29 South St. Information: 802-254-9377; Click for more info on Web in new window.

BRATTLEBORO Laurel Marx - "Shadow Becomes Light": In this exhibition, Marx shares her photo-collages, large prints that explore the nuances of natural light. Shadows play across museum floors and South American tiles, across Italian terraces and city lofts; the focus always being the interplay between diffuse light and the stark moment when one's attention is called into a closer focus. 6/1: 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. opening reception; Saturdays: 12 noon - 4 p.m. gallery hours and by appointment.
