Good day to those who lay their heads down in the windy hamlets of southeastern Vermont! Guess what? Autumn has finally arrived and entrenched itself into our region.
And, if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be dealing with a truly wintry air mass for Friday and Saturday which could lead to a couple of chances for snow showers. I hope you all enjoyed the unseasonably mild-to-warm air we’ve been having, because it has certainly left the building. Having said all that, let’s jump into the details!
For Wednesday and Thursday, we will experience high pressure moving into the region from our west, which will produce a period of fair weather. However, it will be quite chilly with highs only in the mid 40s and lows in the upper 20s. We’re entering the time of hard freezes, for sure. Despite the chill, we should have mostly light winds and plenty of sunshine to enjoy.
By Thursday afternoon, however, clouds will start to increase ahead of a strong cold front that will be barreling through the region by Thursday night. While this front doesn’t look to have a ton of moisture with it, it will likely kick up some rain showers which could change to snow showers as it passes through.
It’s not out of the question for some mountainous areas to pick up some dustings here and there. Lows will be in the low 20s Thursday night, and we will wake up on Friday to a truly wintry day.
For Friday, highs will not even reach 30 degrees! Expect highs in the upper 20s with plenty of sunshine, and lows down near 10 degrees in spots! On Saturday we’ll be a tad milder, but highs will be in the low 30s and lows in the high teens, with sunshine during the day and clear skies at night as high pressure crests over the region.
For Sunday, uncertainties remain. Some models are showing the potential for an amplifying storm developing off the Mid-Atlantic coast which could bring mixed rain and snow later in the day and at night, but the storm could stay weak and pass to our south. Either way, it doesn’t look like a major storm, but something to keep an eye on if you are traveling on Sunday night.
By early next week, temperatures will start to rebound. Highs will be well into the upper 40s to near 50, and lows in the lower 30s, with reasonably fair weather. Have a great week!
