TOWNSHEND—Valley Cares will hold its first-ever art auction to benefit the expansion of West River Valley Assisted Living.
All those interested in local artisan creations – or supporting the creation of senior housing – should not miss this event.
The auction will take place on Sunday, Dec. 9 at West River Valley Assisted Living on Route 35. There will be a silent auction from 3-5 p.m., followed by a live auction from 5-6 p.m. Dr. Timothy Shafer will be the guest auctioneer for the live event.
More than 30 artists from around the region have generously donated various pieces, including: paintings, drawings, etchings, prints, photographs, pottery and fiber art.
The auction will include pieces from Bobbi Angell, Homer Johnson, J. Mark Littlehales, Matthew Peake, Janet Picard, Bill Schommer, Matthew Tell, Lydia Thomson, Chris Triebert, Malcolm Wright, and many more. There will be an assortment of prints and originals to fit a range of budgets.
This year’s art auction follows one year after a successful art show exhibiting the artwork of many resident artists and family members of residents. Several residents will again have artwork on display throughout the building this year during the art auction.
Proceeds from the auction will go toward the expansion of West River Valley Assisted Living — a service-enriched senior housing complex that provides care and assistance with activities of daily living.
To date, Valley Cares has raised more than $2.6 million toward this project, which includes the creation of 12 new apartment units and related common spaces, and the expansion of existing dining, kitchen, laundry and nursing facilities. Construction is set to begin in January 2013.
