Well-being

GRAFTON Learn Hands Only/Bystander Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Survival rates for cardiac arrest patients continue to be as low as 10% primarily because no one is around at the time of the incident to administer CPR. The survival rate can be doubled and even tripled when CPR is begun at once. Waiting for an EMS Responder to arrive costs time which can never be overcome even with all the specialized training and equipment that EMS Responders have. The most important immediate aspect of CPR, is to keep the patient's blood flowing - which can be done by administering chest compressions and needs to be done at once while waiting for EMS to arrive. Breaths will be administered by EMS when they arrive on scene. Because of this, a type of CPR has been developed called Hands Only or Bystander CPR that can be easily learned in one short lesson. Training provided by Grafton Rescue Squad. 7 p.m. Free. Grafton Elementary School, 58 School St. Registration required: 802-843-2401, graftonrescue@vermontel.net.

BRATTLEBORO But What About the Other Caregivers? - Animal Caregivers for the Dying & Bereaved: Companion animals are unsung and unacknowledged heroes as they quietly go about their work of providing loving support for their dying and grieving human family members. As they do this, they are often grieving themselves. Join Cheryl Richards, of Loving Transitions for Critters and Their People, to explore the care given by animals, how they grieve, and how we, as members of their human family, can serve them in return. 12 noon - 1 p.m. Free. River Garden - Brown Bag Series, 157 Main St. Information: 802-246-0982; Click for more info on Web in new window.
