Music

GUILFORD Bob Stabach 4tet plays Yin Yang Jazz: The concert will present a mix of European jazz (yin) and American jazz (yang). The European style, centered around the ECM recording label, is characterized by an inner directed, subdued, specious and contemplative aesthetic. American Jazz style, broadly speaking, revels in outwardly directed emotional expressions, impressive melodic line, and a driving swing feel leading to awesome climaxes. Being more tonal oriented, the European style is less inclined to dissonance (blues notes) and favors less dense harmonies and uses triads for color on occasion. The straight eight rhythmic feel is prominent and climaxes are developed with patience and restraint. Eugene Uman, piano; George Kaye, bass; Jon Fisher, drums; Bob Stabach, sax. 7 p.m. $15 to $20 suggested donation. Wendys Soiree. Info and directions: Wendy: 802-254-6189.
