Brattleboro Words Trail to 'Go Live' at Zoom Launch Event : Hear stories about how scores of citizens, students, and scholars engaged their creativity to produce 52 audio destinations for regional biking/driving tours throughout Windham County (plus some sites in NH and MA) and 47 audio destinations that comprise a Downtown Brattleboro Tour. Audio tours and maps will all be available free of charge to tourists/local residents. On the Trail, people will hear stories as diverse as that of: Guilford's Andrew Kopkind, one of the nation's first openly gay journalists; Never before released tape of Eleanor Roosevelt's advice on US global leadership to graduating Putney School students; Correcting the historical record of Frederick Douglass' first known speech on Lincoln's assassination in Downtown Brattleboro; New insights into Nobel Laureates Saul Bellow, Jody Williams, and Wangari Maathi's rich connections to our area; John Humphrey Noyes' experiment with group marriage in Putney; How women writers like Harriet Beecher Stowe found their voices with help from Dr. Robert Wesselhoeft's water cure; Modern storyteller Tom Bodett's musings on the power of story/words. 7 p.m. The Brattleboro Words Project encourages the community to join together for an uplifting celebration as organizers push the button that makes the Brattleboro Words Trail audio tours go live.
