A Very Merry Discussion of "A Christmas Carol" with Everywhere Philosophy (Online): Dr. Mike and Bethany discuss and offer a partial reading of Dickens' rich ode to the season. Offering philosophy, seasonal cocktails, singing carols together. In December 1843, Charles Dickens penned this preface to his widely read "A Christmas Carol": "I have endeavored in this ghostly little book to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humor with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. Their faithful Friend and Servant, C.D." Dickens' novella haunts us every year and is as relevant and well-known today as it was 178 years ago. Much of the relevance of "A Christmas Carol" to today is due to it tracking themes which are so close and familiar that they are recognizable to everyone, at every age: Economic Inequality, Death, Regret, Redemption, Hope. 8 - 9:30 p.m. By donation.
