The written word

NEWFANE Fifth Annual Writing to the Light Circle: Writers of all kinds and all levels of experience are invited to reflect on the light in their life in a supportive writing circle. We'll write to illuminate our inner light, honor our inner voice, and tell whatever stories rise to be told. Prompts and guidance for automatic writing will be provided. Collectively, we will create a safe space for those who wish to read their new words. This writing circle is led by local author and educator Deborah Lee Luskin. 1-3 p.m. (Also see 12/31/2021). Free (donations to the Moore Free Library are welcome). Moore Free Library, 23 West St. Information: Advance registration: www.deborahleeluskin.com/contact.

Visual arts and shows

BRATTLEBORO David Frey Utiger - Pointillism Pen and Ink Work: "Sharing the landscape is an important theme in much of my work. In many of my paintings you will see a single house or a cluster of houses surrounded by abundant, well-kept fields. That's because I feel strongly that a small community of people living and working together in harmony with the land can flourish, achieving the closest thing there may be to heaven on earth. The recurring image of settlements surrounded by beautiful rolling hills connects with the biblical image of New Jerusalem, the 'shining city on a hill.' By returning to this image again and again, I am affirming my belief that peaceful coexistence with the land is still possible.". Monday-Saturday: 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Sundays: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Through Sunday, January 30. Free. Gallery in the Woods, 145 Main St. Information: 802-257-4777; Click for more info on Web in new window.
