Saxtons River Trustees hire team to advance park planning

SAXTONS RIVER—The Saxtons River Park project took another step forward with the hiring of a Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) team to carry out the planning for the remediation of its future park site.

Village Trustees voted to hire LE Environmental (LEE) of Waterbury to move forward the cleanup of the brownfields site by carrying out its corrective action plan and developing the final construction documents.

The work will be funded by part of a $275,500 EPA grant the village received for the remediation.

The QEP team, headed by Angela Emerson and Alan Liptak of LEE, includes Julie Moir Messervy and Jana Bryan of JMMDS Design Studio of Saxtons River, and Dean Grover of Grover Engineering of Huntington, with the assistance of Thomas Jamison of Hartgen Archaeological Associates of Putney.

According to Moir Messervy in a news release, JMMDS is thrilled to collaborate with the Village of Saxtons River and its Park Committee to create a beautiful park on the historic site.

“We are so excited to be able to practice our craft on behalf of our own community, while working closely with the EPA, the Windham Regional Commission, and the other members of our QEP team,” Messervy wrote.

The QEP team hopes to get to work immediately so that construction can begin in the fall.

The trustees and the QEP team are working with Kim Smith of the Windham Regional Commission to administer the EPA grant and will meet soon with Joe Ferrari, their EPA representative, to review the grant’s requirements.
