Shipman paintings on display at Amy’s

BRATTLEBORO — Margaret Shipman is the featured artist at Amy's Bakery Arts Café, which is displaying her paintings through the end of March.

On her professional Facebook page (facebook.com/MargaretShipmanArt), Shipman writes that she is “inspired by the vibrant craziness of the natural world, dual nature of humanity, and magic in everyday life.”

The show also includes Shipman's recent series of flower paintings, some of which include sewn fabric. Also on display: a number of her original oil-on-canvas illustrations from the Wayfarer Tarot, a deck of tarot cards that she is creating with local tarot card teacher Stacy Salpietro-Babb.

For Shipman, who says she prefers to speak through her art rather than about it, painting is a constant learning process, one she uses to explore “color, texture, and pattern.”

“Every time I sit down to paint I learn something new about colors and textures, what works for me and what does not,” she told The Commons.

In addition to her paintings, the Vernon artist creates commissioned murals, offers graphic design services, and creates jewelry.

Her work will also be on display at Mitchell-Giddings Fine Arts at 183 Main St. as part of a group show that opens Feb. 11.
