Newfane briefs

School solar project is back on maybe

NEWFANE — NEWFANE - The delayed 500-kilowatt solar array planned for an unused field behind the NewBrook Elementary School may happen after all.

Ken McFadden, chair of the Brookline-Newfane Joint School Board, visited the Newfane Selectboard at their Oct. 17 regular meeting with an update on the project, which hinges on SunEdison filing a Certificate of Public Good with the state's Public Service Board by Dec. 30.

“SunEdison is back in the game,” McFadden told Board members, adding, “apparently, they were never out of the game, they were just reorganizing. It looks like [the project] is going through the way it's supposed to; it was just delayed because of their financial problems.”

The school board received a letter of reassurance in early October, McFadden said, stating SunEdison will complete the Certificate of Public Good by Dec. 30.

Williamsville Hall closed for season

WILLIAMSVILLE - The Williamsville Hall closed for the season Nov. 1.

The hall, which doesn't have an adequate heating system for cold weather, typically closes between November and April.

Newfane Selectboard Chair Todd Lawley announced the hall's seasonal closing at the Board's Oct. 17 regular meeting.

Tax map fever

NEWFANE - The Selectboard unanimously voted to award the bid for the property mapping project to Putney-based Cartographic Technologies for an amount not to exceed $14,620.

The tax maps are necessary for the Listers' Office to maintain accurate property values and is part of the town-wide reappraisal process.

Lister Doris Knechtel presented the Board with the three bids the town received. Knechtel said Windham Regional Commission Senior Planner Jeff Nugent reviewed the three bids and the companies submitting them, “to ensure compliance with new state mapping standards to be implemented in 2017.”

Knechtel assured Board members the reappraisal budget has more than enough money to cover this project, but suggested the Board budget for yearly map updating.
