Good day to you! Luckily for us, what used to be Hurricane Irma, one of the strongest tropical cyclones recorded in the Atlantic Basin, will provide us with nothing more than a whimper by late this week.
And, as of this writing, it looks like Hurricane Jose will be kicked out to sea by a stronger-than-expected jet stream after it meanders around east of the Bahamas into this weekend. Good news all around for southern Vermont!
For Wednesday, we should enjoy one more sunny day with highs in the mid 70s. However, clouds from Irma's remnants should be starting to approach the region by late in the day. The leftover moisture from Irma, combined with an approaching cold front, will bring a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms from Thursday into Saturday. Lows Wednesday night will dip into the upper 50s with an isolated shower possible.
For Thursday through Saturday, we will be dealing with a slow-moving cold front due to upper level winds being parallel to the front itself. This provides little in the way of forward motion.
The front and Irma's moisture will combine to produce periods of scattered showers and even a few thunderstorms during this period, with partly sunny skies on average. Highs Thursday will be in the mid 70s, with low 70s for highs Friday and Saturday. Lows will be in the upper 50s through the period, which will also feature an increase in humidity.
For Sunday and Monday, we will be on the other side of the cold front, and slightly cooler and drier air will work into the region from the west. This will foster sunny skies, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s and lows in the mid 50s.
Another cold front may approach the region by Tuesday or so, with a chance for more scattered showers. If Jose were to impact us, it would be around the middle of next week, but hopefully it will just impact the fish and leave us alone.
