Good day to you, southeastern denizens of the Green Mountain State! After our recent heat increase, along with all the tropical and severe weather we endured for much of July into the first few days of August, we're settling into a more run-of-the-mill summer pattern.
Humidity will continue, but won't be as extreme as it was in late July, and we'll get some drier, more comfortable periods mixed in as well. For the week ahead, we'll see periods of showers and thunderstorms with very warm and calm summer days, so let's jump into the daily details!
For Wednesday, we have an cold front that will be approaching southern Vermont from our northwest. While this front is no great shakes in terms of strength, it will still produce enough lift in the atmosphere in combination with plenty of humidity and some surface-based instability to produce showers and thunderstorms.
Some of these storms may become strong to severe, with localized damaging gusty winds and torrential rain capable of producing localized street flooding being the main storm threats. Expect highs to reach the upper 70s to low 80s with lows in the mid 60s.
Showers and storms should pop by early afternoon and last into the early evening before the front clears our region at night.
For Thursday, a morning shower is possible, but as the front continues to the east, we should begin to clear out and enjoy partly sunny skies with highs in the low 80s. An afternoon very isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible.
Dewpoint temperatures should sit down into the low to mid 60s by Thursday night, which will make things a bit more comfortable for us. Low air temperatures will reach the low 60s, and some patchy fog will be possible late.
For Friday and Friday night we'll enjoy a nice respite, with sunny skies, highs in the low to mid 80s, and drier conditions. Lows will be in the low 60s under partly cloudy skies.
For Saturday into early next week we'll have some atmospheric boundaries nearby that will help to spark scattered showers and thunderstorms as humidity builds again thanks to a strengthening high pressure system in the western Atlantic Ocean. Generally, highs will be in the 80s and lows in the 60s. Have a great week!
