[FRAMED] series continues with ‘Texassippi Soul Man’ Danny Brooks

PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts Project will present a special edition of [FRAMED], featuring both an original film and live concert featuring “Texassippi Soul Man” Danny Brooks & Lil Miss Debi at Next Stage on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m.

This special event features the 2017 film Hard Working Man, a documentary by Christopher Darton about the life of Danny Brooks as a working musician - writing songs, recording, out on the road, meeting people - as well as the effect on those his life touches.

It includes live concert footage of his duo and full band in Canada and Texas, and also covers Brooks' past - his growing up in Toronto, his musical trajectory, his battle with addiction and his relationship with his wife and musical partner Debi. At its core the film is about survival, determination, faith, and the celebration of a creative life in music.

Brooks has long been referred to as “the real deal” and, after years of honing his writing and performing skills in Canada, Brooks is at home in the Texas music scene and traveling throughout the U.S.

Mixing Southern Soul, Americana, Blues and Gospel, he is recognized as a prolific writer and a dynamic live performer and is constantly on the road.

Making his home in Llano, Texas, just west of Austin, “Texassippi Soul Man” Brooks' music features the duo he has with his wife, Lil Miss Debi, who sings and plays cajon/percussion while he plays assorted guitars/slide/cigar-box/stomp-board and harp-rack. Lou Erlanger will be a special guest at this concert.
