SAXTONS RIVER — Christ's Church will hold its 62nd annual Christmas Stocking Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Since its inception in 1956, the Women's Fellowship bazaar has been a hallmark of the beginning of the holiday season in the village. Proceeds go to various missions of the fellowship and the church
This year, the bazaar will take place wholly in the large dining room in the basement of the church, with entrance from the rear parking lot or side door.
Features of the event are a Pantry Shelf Food Table with homemade apple pies and other food items; an Arts and Crafts Table with handmade items, including a colorful lap quilt made and donated by Patricia Bellows, and costume jewelry; a Time and Talents list offering goods and services donated by community members for a fee; and a Santa's Nook with special activities for children and holiday cookie decorating.
A tea room known for its homemade cinnamon rolls also serves a lunch of corn chowder, sandwiches, Jell-o salad, pie, and beverages.
A silent auction of donated items and a raffle of 100 gallons of fuel oil or propane donated by Cota & Cota round out the bazaar.
Church members say the bazaar first started at the former Congregational Church, now the site of the Saxtons River Historical Society museum.
In 1840, the Baptists built what is now Christ's Church. The two churches began sharing activities and eventually became a federation of Baptist and Congregationalists in the 1930s that eventually made its permanent home in the newer building, which became known as Christ's Church in 1952.
