Canal Street Art Gallery offers first-year retrospective exhibit

BELLOWS FALLS — The public is invited to attend the opening reception of “Anniversary!” on Friday, Nov. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Canal Street Art Gallery, 23 Canal St.

According to a news release, the show is a celebration of first-year achievements, friendships, and a collection of artwork from the area's most talented artists.

Participating artists include Zoee Blossom, Jean Cannon, Sloane Dawson, Spaulding Dunbar Images, Karl Jacobson, Carol Keiser, Robert McBride, Lisa Mcnealus, Scott J. Morgan, Charles Norris-Brown, Bonnie North, MC Noyes, Gil Perry, Mark Ragonese, Phyllis Rosser, Matt Saxton, and Chris Sherwin.

Works in the show encompass an exciting and dynamic range of mediums.

Represented in the show are paintings in oils, acrylics, and watercolors, drawings, photographs, sculpture, glass art and jewelry. Styles and subjects include landscapes and waterscapes, flora and fauna, still life, the human figure, realism and abstraction, found object cultural commentary, and biomorphic forms.

Organizers say the show supports the gallery's mission to represent and exhibit contemporary artists in all styles and mediums and offers an open space where all creative voices may be heard while keeping the purchase of original art attainable to all collectors including the seasoned, new, and unexpected. Artists will include in the show works that are appropriately sized and priced for gifts, offering selected works priced under $100, $50, and $25.

Having the anniversary celebration during the holiday season inspired the gallery to raise awareness and money for public art. During this show, 1 percent of profits will be given to a fund for the maintenance of existing public art in the town of Rockingham.
