Sunny, dry and cold conditions will dominate, but light snow possible Thursday

Good day to you, fine people of southern Vermont! For the first time in many months, the week ahead looks primarily dry and should feature partly to mostly sunny skies. I think many of us will be delighted at this news, given how cloudy, rainy, and snowy it's been this year!

There is a chance for a period of light snow Thursday night into Friday morning, and another chance at light snow early next week. However, these do not look like big events, so at the moment, I'm not all that concerned for big impacts from these potential systems.

Having said that, let's jump into the dailies!

For Wednesday, high pressure will be moving in from the southwest and bring mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s and a generally light wind. Lows on Wednesday night will be cold, dropping into the teens as fresh cold air establishes itself across the region.

For Thursday we will start off with mostly sunny skies. However, clouds will likely build as the day wears on as an Alberta Clipper system tracks west to east along the U.S. border with Canada.

This will in turn drag a cold front through the region, and will produce scattered snow showers across southern Vermont, or even a short period of light snow.

Accumulations of a coating to up to 2 inches or so is possible into Friday morning. Highs on Thursday will be in the low to mid 30s with lows in the teens. Southerly winds may also gust to 30 mph.

For Friday and Saturday, the coldest air of this upcoming cold snap moves into the region on northwesterly wind gusts up to 40 mph on Friday. Mostly sunny skies are expected, but highs will only be in the mid to upper 20s with lows in the single digits both days and nights.

In fact, Saturday will be the coldest day of the next week, with highs likely only in the low to mid 20s!

For Sunday through Tuesday, we should again enjoy partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s and lows in the teens.

There is a chance for some more snow by Tuesday, as we watch a southern stream storm system try to turn the corner up the coast by early next week. Right now, it looks like high pressure will be tracking northeast of it, which would suppress the storm to our south and out to sea.

Enjoy the fair weather and have a great week!
