Meteorological seesaw continues with wintry active pattern

Good day to you, fine folks of southeastern Vermont, as winter continues for those north of the Massachusetts border.

Despite some mixed precipitation events, you have seen far more snow than our southerly neighbors in the lower terrain of western Massachusetts.

In Windham County, a mix of snow and ice showers should generally have ended if you happen to pick up this paper on its publication date. However, additional snow showers and some spotty light accumulations are expected Wednesday afternoon and night as colder westerly winds gust 30 to 40mph at times.

Thursday looks like a decent day, but yet another frontal system moves in with more mixed snow, sleet and rain Thursday night into the first half of Friday.

Colder air then returns again, setting us up for a decent and seasonably cold weekend, before even more inclement wintry weather arrives by early to mid next week. With that said, let's get granular in the dailies below!

For Wednesday, some scattered showers of snow, sleet or even freezing rain are possible early before a slight lull followed by even more scattered snow showers developing in the afternoon and evening.

Highs will reach the middle 30s and then fall by sunset down into the low 20s at night. Additional light snow accumulations are possible by Thursday morning with west winds gusting to 30 mph at times.

Any flurries end Thursday morning, which develops into a partly sunny day with highs in the mid to upper 30s. We cloud back up Thursday night in advance of an incoming cold frontal boundary connected to a low pressure system that will pass well to the northwest of our region.

While warmer air will be associated with this system, its onset timing will allow snow and sleet to develop across the region late Thursday night into Friday morning.

After some light accumulations, we should see a change to rain in the valleys with mixed snow and rain in the high terrain during the morning. Expect highs to reach the mid 30s to low 40s.

Precipitation will lighten and become scattered Friday afternoon, but more upslope snow showers are expected Friday night as lows drop into the upper 20s.

Our weekend looks pleasant enough, with highs in the mid 30s on Saturday and the low 30s on Sunday, with a cloudy Saturday and a sunny Sunday. Lows both nights will be in the teens.

By early next week, we should remain seasonably cold and could see more snow or ice. However, the upstream pattern from whence our weather originates is especially chaotic and unclear, so that part of the forecast remains uncertain. Have a great week!
