Puppets in Paradise visits the Retreat Farm

BRATTLEBORO — Sandglass Theater announces the return of its most beloved community event, Puppets in Paradise, on Sept. 14 and 15.

This year, they present this biennial fundraiser in partnership with Retreat Farm in Brattleboro.

This new partnership is grounded in a shared interest to nurture the relationship between the arts and agriculture in Vermont as a fundamental aspect of local identity.

A prominent feature of the Brattleboro landscape for 180 years, Retreat Farm encompasses 500 acres of conserved forests, farmlands, trails, and waterways, and a historic nine-structure farmstead.

At Puppets in Paradise, audiences will walk around the farm and encounter puppet, theater, and music performances amid the fields, historic barns, and animals.

Food and refreshments from local vendors add to the delight of this day.

This year Sandglass welcomes an exciting roster of first-time and returning performers including Joshua Holden, Chad Williams, Finn Campman, Liz Joyce, Faye Dupras, Rose Friedman, Justin Lander, Honey Goodenough, Cynthia Parker-Houghton, Elena Day and Sandglass co-founders Eric Bass and Ines Zeller Bass.

Puppets in Paradise runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last performance begins at 3:45 p.m. A hay wagon will facilitate accessibility options for most performance locations.

Performances repeat throughout the day; they suggest allowing at least two hours to enjoy them all.

Tickets may be purchased at sandglasstheater.org or at the door and are $12 for adults, $10 for children/students/seniors, $8 per person for families of four and up and EBT and Medicaid cardholders.
