MARLBORO — Marlboro College presents Ensemble Pamplemousse, an innovative composer/performer collective founded in 2003, in concert on Sunday, Sept. 22. Part of the college's Music for a Sunday Afternoon series, the performance will take place at 3 p.m. in Ragle Hall, and is free and open to the public.
Ensemble Pamplemousse fuses chamber music, popular music, theater, instrument building, electronics, and video.
Over nearly two decades of collaborative work, Pamplemousse has developed into a close-knit group of divergent artistic personalities with “a shared love for where the exquisite and the absurd meet,” according to a news release. As a performing group, “Ensemble Pamplemousse has been at the center of a movement to diversify the concert music space in terms of gender, culture, and aesthetic perspectives.”
In performance, the ensemble weaves together self-described “shapes of resonance, clusters of glitch, skitters of hyper action, and masses of absurdity into impeccable structures of unified beauty.”
Ensemble Pamplemousse, which in its current configuration includes David Broome, Natacha Diels, Andrew Greenwald, Bryan Jacobs, Jessie Marino, and Weston Olencki, has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe.
Greenwald is also an artist-in-residence at Marlboro College, and a member of Marlboro's new “ensemble in residence,” called Marlboro Slipstream Group, or MSG.
At their Marlboro performance, Ensemble Pamplemousse will present a program of six works written by each of the collective's members, recently unveiled at their annual Chance & Circumstance Festival. Expect absurdist theater, re-mappings of classical repertoire, electromechanical inventions, arcane tuning systems, and more.
This event doubles as a record release for Pamplemousse's newest album, produced and released by TAK editions.
